The Velvet Curtain | 5-day Play-Script Writing Course

A team of Cambridge-Certified Teachers of English that offers thoughtfully designed programs to spark the love for expression in children

About the Class

Beneath the gentle swish of The Velvet Curtain, young minds discover the joy of bringing stories to life on paper.
This delightful course introduces 7–8 year olds to the art of playscript writing, helping them turn everyday scenes, imaginative adventures, and funny conversations into mini stage plays.

Through fun-filled prompts, roleplay, and dialogue games, children will learn how to write character lines, stage directions, and simple scenes—just like real playwrights. Whether it’s a tale of a talking cat or a royal mess in a magic kingdom, every child gets to hear their words performed and celebrated.

Because when the curtain rises, even the quietest voice can take center stage.

Common Room

Common Room is an online platform that offers fun and engaging creative writing courses and resources for children of ages 7 to 15.

Traditionally, a common room is a shared lounge, often attached to dorm rooms in boarding schools, where students socialise, have late night study sessions, host house parties and engage in other after school activities. Drawing inspiration from this much loved space, Common Room is an initiative to create a shared virtual learning space for young learners, to engage in magical learning experiences.

The Young Writers Long Term course is delivered by Miss Vaijayanthi.

Vaijayanthi is a Cambridge Certified Teacher of English with experience teaching students from India and the UAE. She has delivered training to students of all age groups through her time at The Hindu.

In addition to her Cambridge CELTA certification, Vaijayanthi is also a Licensed Teacher in the UAE, the process of which has helped her gain insight on the learning needs of students of different nationalities.

She has joined Common Room to help children develop essential writing skills beyond their classrooms.
