Essays from the Attic | Creative Writing Workshop

A team of Cambridge-Certified Teachers of English that offers thoughtfully designed programs to spark the love for expression in children

About the Class

Step into the attic of imagination, where stories, ideas, and words come alive.
Essays from the Attic is a week-long creative writing journey designed especially for young thinkers and storytellers who are beginning to explore the world through words.

Through interactive prompts, guided discussions, and fun writing games, children will learn how to express themselves confidently and creatively. Each session builds on the previous one, introducing a new style of writing and helping children understand the art of structuring thoughts, building narratives, and adding personal voice to their work.

What they will explore:

  • Narrative Writing: Learn how to craft engaging stories with characters, settings, and plots that keep readers hooked.
  • Descriptive Writing: Use sensory details and vivid imagery to bring scenes and emotions to life.
  • Persuasive Writing: Understand how to build strong arguments and express opinions with clarity and confidence.
  • Travel Writing: Capture experiences, places, and cultures through thoughtful observation and reflection.
  • Blog Writing: Discover how to write for digital platforms — fun, conversational, and relatable!

About Common Room

Common Room

Common Room is an online platform that offers fun and engaging creative writing courses and resources for children of ages 7 to 15.

Traditionally, a common room is a shared lounge, often attached to dorm rooms in boarding schools, where students socialise, have late night study sessions, host house parties and engage in other after school activities. Drawing inspiration from this much loved space, Common Room is an initiative to create a shared virtual learning space for young learners, to engage in magical learning experiences.

The Young Writers course is delivered by Miss Shikha.

Shikha is a Cambridge certified Teacher of English, with over 7 years of experience teaching students in India and Japan.

She is passionate about children’s literature and sharing the joy that reading can bring. One of her areas of expertise is creative writing, which she believes encourages children to give flight to their imagination.

She is therefore thrilled to be able to teach courses that combine her two passions - books and writing.
