Crafting Clues: A 5-hour Mystery Writing Workshop

A team of Cambridge-Certified Teachers of English that offers thoughtfully designed programs to spark the love for expression in children

About the Class

Calling all our young mystery story lovers to join our newest creative writing course, Crafting Clues, for 9-14 year olds!

Our 5-day course is the perfect opportunity for young minds to dive into the world of mystery stories.

During this immersive journey, children will have the chance to:

  • Create their very own detective character, complete with a unique personality and backstory, ready to solve perplexing cases.
  • Master the art of foreshadowing and misdirection to craft a suspenseful mystery plot.
  • Expand their vocabulary, allowing them to paint vivid, mysterious landscapes with words.
  • Finally, they’ll have the opportunity to put their newfound skills to the test and write their very own mystery story, weaving together all the elements they’ve learned.

As always, the course comes with a downloadable PDF workbook that includes a capsule sized summary of each lesson, as well as optional at-home practice tasks, to help your child get the best out of the course.

Common Room

Common Room is an online platform that offers fun and engaging creative writing courses and resources for children of ages 7 to 15.

Traditionally, a common room is a shared lounge, often attached to dorm rooms in boarding schools, where students socialise, have late night study sessions, host house parties and engage in other after school activities. Drawing inspiration from this much loved space, Common Room is an initiative to create a shared virtual learning space for young learners, to engage in magical learning experiences.

The Crafting Clues course is delivered by Miss Vaijayanthi.

Vaijayanthi is a Cambridge Certified Teacher of English with experience teaching students from India and the UAE. She has delivered training to students of all age groups through her time at The Hindu.

In addition to her Cambridge CELTA certification, Vaijayanthi is also a Licensed Teacher in the UAE, the process of which has helped her gain insight on the learning needs of students of different nationalities.
