Curated Classes & Activities for Children Kidiaree

Build-a-Scope

A children’s festival sparking joy, imagination & new skills through hands-on workshops in art, movement, storytelling & self-expression!

About the Class

Make your own simple telescope and see the night sky come alive.

In Build-a-Scope, young astronomers roll up their sleeves to construct their own working telescope from scratch. Guided by the Breakthrough Science Society team, kids learn the basics of optics, lenses, and magnification before heading outdoors to test their creations under the night sky. As they focus on craters, moons, and distant planets, they’ll discover not just how telescopes work — but how curiosity turns ordinary materials into tools for exploring the universe.

The Breakthrough Science Society (BSS)

The Breakthrough Science Society (BSS) is a collective of educators, scientists, and astronomy enthusiasts dedicated to promoting scientific curiosity and critical thinking among young minds. The team includes Harikumar K. S. (Safety Trainer, Environmentalist & Astronomy Educator), P. P. Sajeevkumar (Engineer at BPCL and Secretary, BSS Ernakulam Chapter), and Adv. Sajeev T. Prabhakar (Astronomer and Vice President, BSS Ernakulam Chapter). With years of experience conducting workshops and stargazing sessions across Kerala, BSS turns complex scientific concepts into exciting, hands-on experiences that inspire wonder about our universe.
